Your food is Yucky

Oh if my children had a dollar for every time they have heard that over the years. Joe told me in conversation yesterday that he'd been getting a lot of negative comments about the way his lunchbox looks. Sigh. As his lunchbox is not the standard sandwich and chippies kids feel the need to comment. I mentioned this in passing to his teacher who was shocked that they had not "got past this". I was not surprised at all as it's human nature to judge and compare. And, I will be the first to put my hand up and admit that my inner "judgy pants" go on if I see a toddler with a can of coke! However, it does make it tough on kids (and their parents) if only one image of a lunchbox is "acceptable".
Today I probably scored some slam dunk negative comments with my Red Dragon Pie (I added cheese to melt on the top) as it certainly looks very unlike a sandwich and possibly a little like something else less pleasant. Tasted great though and Joe and Max both devoured it.
We will certainly not be changing our food to suit the mood but I do wish it were a bit easier for us.
Do your kids get the "yucky" label thrown at their lunches?
