Hearty Breakfast

Ooh, so excited to have my boys at home for school holidays (remind me of this in 3 days when they are bickering ALL day!). It makes the morning routine just a little more relaxed. Although we still have to be out the door to get Joe to soccer camp there are no lunchboxes etc.
Now I know there are many different theories on breakfast and which is the healthiest and when to eat it etc. For me I hark back to my Grandmothers and reckon kids need something to "stick to their ribs" in the morning. After a night of not eating it's time  to "break-the-fast" with something filling and hearty. Max loves his porridge. I make it with wholegrain oats (that I blitz a little and then soak), mixed with oat bran (for added fibre), some raisins for sweetness, a cinnamon stick for taste and home-made raw milk kefir for gut health. Joe has home-made muesli followed by a bowl of porridge (the kid eats enough for all of us ...). This keeps them going until lunch when they are once again "starving" and ready to slam the next meal.
For me personally I find having a nutrient dense breakfast sets me up for a day of eating well and tamps down my "snacking gene".
Are you a breakfast or not person?
