Last night Max went trick-or-treating with his friends. He'd spent a few weeks planning and had Roy make him a pretty impressive scythe (no complaints from the woodworking dept on that score ...).
He had a great time even though he eats none of the collected sweets. It makes him the perfect partner as he just hands off anything he receives to his friends.
And no, it's not because I am the meanest and most "bah humbug" mother in the world (although I do sometimes qualify) it's just that the boys have not been brought up eating sweets and so just don't eat them!
I decided before they were born to attempt a pretty much "sugar-free" lifestyle. I thought it would be sooooo nice to eat healthy foods and not have to constantly be making a conscious decision to not snarf the cake! And it has worked and has been a blessing for them on many levels. Do they sometime miss out - yes and no - but in this instance Max came home buzzing from the experience (as he did the year before) and with no regrets about not eating the sweets.
Do you believe (as we're always told) that kids "deprived" go bananas once given free rein? ...
