Curry Kids

School holidays - ahhh. And AHH. The boys and I are off to Perth tomorrow so I'm running around madly trying to get all sorts achieved. This means the boys were on dinner duty last night and tonight too. As I'm wife of year I decided they should do a curry and dahl yesterday and some roasted veggies and pork today so Roy has a few meals lined up whilst he's flying solo.
The boys LOVE to chop so always argue over who gets to use the big knife (males and tools). Yesterday Joe got to drive and cried through 3 onions, garlic and ginger. Max was spice master mixing up the spices for the fish & chicken curries and the dahl. This went well until I tasted the curry and he sheepishly admitted he'd done heaped spoons of everything. This is OK with things like cumin and coriander but not so flash with salt. It actually tasted great, albeit being a bit salty. Lesson learned for next time ...
As usual we made big batches so everyone got curry, dahl, brown basmati rice and raw veggies for lunch. And, they already have the veggies par-boiling for dinner so they are organised for later ....
Cooking with kids can be so stressful. However, once they are competent it really does take some pressure off. The only thing I haven't mastered is getting them to do it cleanly and to tidy up effectively behind them (mind you Roy is not quite there with any of that when he cooks either ...).
Do your kids tidy up behind themselves?
